Making modeling clay is a creative activity that allows your child to practice important social skills. Prepare this modeling clay recipe together, then use it to create all kinds of fun shapes and creatures.
We need :
- 300 g (3 cups) flour
- 100 g (1 cup) of salt
- 250 ml (1 cup) of water
- 1/3 cup (80 mL) cooking oil
- Powder paint or food coloring
- Bowl, spoon and measuring cups
- Paper or plastic plates
- Cookie cutter, rolls, and small cutting boards
How to do?
Pour all the ingredients into a bowl and mix them with a spoon or with your hands. Once the dough is ready, give free rein to your imagination and shape it to create all kinds of shapes and creatures.
This activity puts into practice the Comfort, Play, Teach and Participate parenting approach to your child’s development as follows:
Comfort: Comment on how your child plays with play dough. You can tell him, for example: “You’re really good at flattening the dough! Can you show me how you do it? The attention you give him will make him happy and make him feel that you appreciate his company.
Play: Show your child how to cut out cookie biscuits using a cookie cutter and invite him to serve them with his dolls in paper or plastic plates. This will help him incorporate modeling clay into his fictional games, as well as encourage him to share.
Teach: By measuring and combining the ingredients, your child does a lot of learning. For example, he practices counting, observes changes in the state of ingredients, and explores the difference between wet and dry.
